Since SongADAO operates on a 1 person 1 vote framework, it’s impossible to know what kind of proposals might come through the DAO. Looking to NounsDAO for inspiration, we can see that there’ve been an incredibly wide array of concepts and ideas that have been approved, and even more that are in the queue. I know for a fact that Punk4156 (one of the project’s main creators) didn’t know ahead of time what types of projects the treasury would be used to fund.
All that being said, here’s a smattering of ideas that have floated through my brain at one time or another.
For my 1000th song, I did a Kickstarter, and hired my friends to come make songs with me for a month.
For my 2000th song, I made a video consisting of the 2000 previous videos. I didn’t really do anything special for 3000. For 4000, I made this video.
But 5000 (FIVE THOUSAND) is a huge milestone.
It’s a great opportunity for the DAO, who collectively owns this project, to figure out the best way to celebrate the big 5 triple zero.
What if we could help musicians gain back control of their music? And then…
Instead of keeping the copyright for the songs we buy back, we give them straight to the artist and help them set up their own DAO!
One of the DAO’s stated goals is to “spread the meme of daily creativity”. What are some ways we might do that? Codifying some daily challenges (like Inktober, Nanorimo or my own project, Jamuary) seems like it could be a good place to start.
Occasionally, a big company will come to me and ask to license one of my songs for a show or movie. For instance, in 2020, my song “Fuck You, James Comey” was used by Showtime (owned by CBS/Viacom). At the time, it was just me and my lawyer (a rad dude called Hendo) against CBS!
